Your Story

Personal resilience is the ability to bounce back from difficulties in life. The reality is that sometimes we need assistance to bounce back from personal and relational challenges. This is where counseling can help. Personally, I will seek to be a counselor who listens to your story and helps you respond to these challenges. Some of the common problems I help clients with are issues related to military service, relationship challenges, and life transitions. I also assist clients with issues related to anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, anger management, burnout, compassion fatigue, and coping skills. Some of the therapy models I utilize with client are Cognitive-Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and principles from Bowen’s Family Systems Theory. As a professional counselor I counsel people of all faiths as well as those who are non-religious. For those who desire counsel from a Christian worldview, I am glad to incorporate this perspective into our sessions. I am also aware that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process, and I am committed to working with you on a personal level to tailor the therapy to your specific needs.

My Story

I believe in the counseling process, because it has been a source of hope and healing in my own life. Individual and group counseling helped me overcome traumatic experiences from my past, especially combat. My counselors were caring professionals who listened to my story, challenged me to face my trauma, and walked with me step by step on my journey toward recovery.  These counselors encouraged me to lean into my Christian faith as a source of strength in this process.

My Background

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate in the State of Washington (License # MC61611096). I have a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University (2024), a Master of Divinity from Reformed Theological Seminary (2005), and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Florida Southern College (1997). I also worked in the U.S. Army, first as a line officer (four years), and then as a chaplain (18 years). I am a combat veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and have served in leadership positions from Company to Corps level. In my work as a military chaplain, I regularly provided pastoral counseling to Servicemembers and military couples. Most recently I completed a yearlong internship in mental health counseling at the Chaplain Family Life Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM), WA. I love spending time with my family and have been happily married for 25 years with four children. In my free time I love to golf, hike, snow ski, and serve in my local church.
