Steve Whitmire, Intern
About Me:
“Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Ecclesiastes 4:12, NIV
First and foremost, my faith in Christ is the foundation of who I am and how I approach both life and counseling. I believe deeply in honoring the Lord through the work we do, the relationships we build, and the ways we care for one another.
I am currently a counseling student intern at Colorado Christian University, pursuing licensure as both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC). Before entering the counseling field, I spent more than 15 years working in InformationTechnology, where I developed strong skills in problem-solving, analysis, and systems thinking. Over time, however, I found myself increasingly aware of the people supporting the technology –their stories, struggles, relationships, and desire for deeper connection – which ultimately led me to pursue counseling.
I enjoy working with individuals and couples who feel stuck, disconnected, or uncertain about the direction of their lives or relationships. Having personally experienced seasons of struggle and transition, I understand how easy it can be for distance, resentment, and discouragement to slowly take root over time. I also believe marriage uniquely reflects Christ’s love and that protecting and strengthening the covenant matters deeply.
My approach integrates Biblical wisdom with current psychological research while always respecting each client’s comfort level and personal goals. I have completed Level 1 and Level 2 Gottman Method training and incorporate its evidence-based principles into my work. I take a collaborative and personalized approach to counseling, recognizing that every individual and relationship carries a unique story. Through psychoeducation and meaningful conversation, I help clients better understand how past experiences shape present patterns so they can move forward with greater awareness, intention, and hope.
Above all, I strive to create a supportive and nonjudgmental environment where clients feel safe to explore challenges, gain insight, and pursue meaningful growth. It is truly a privilege to walk alongside people as they navigate change, healing, and deeper connection in their lives and relationship.
